Level:
very easy hiking
Season: all year
Best Season: middle of December
through March
Feature: lovely trails and an
easy cave
This
small national park offers extremely easy trails
and a very nice cave. The
main trail is a dirt road. The thick jungle on
either side is full of life. A vareity of barbets,
trogons, pittas, bulbuls, sunbirds, tailorbirds,
flowepeckers, woodpeckers, malkohas and many more
species are common in Khao Pu Khao Ya National
Park.
The main trail loop that we hike,
leads to an easy cave. The cave allows you to
stand straight up most of the time. There are
a couple places where you have to bend a bit.
It's a nice way to see the limestone cave formations.
After the cave, we take a different cave back
to the park headquarters/bungalow area.
Late afternoon walks around the headquarters usually
offers some last-minute bird sightings. The park
officials are very friendly and they truly like
having birders visit their well-maintained park.
